Doreene Shurts

Vocal Instructor

Doreene, like most singers, has been singing since she was very young. It all began in a church Christmas program when she was six. She'd been given the solo part of "Mary" and became a passionate singer from that day forward. Since that fateful Christmas, she has enjoyed singing is school and church choirs, performing in musicals and plays and going out in her community to sing songs for her debut CD.

A few years ago, she tried her hand at being the Musical Director at Draper Theater for a Christmas production. She absolutely loved experiencing the other side of the business. She has also enjoyed putting together and participating in singing groups to perform all around the Salt Lake Valley.

Doreene had the opportunity to attend the Seth Riggs Summer Vocal Program in 1999 where she was first introduced to the Speech Level Singing technique. She started off as a student, but immediately realized her calling was to become an SLS instructor, and thus began her journey. She is now an endorsed and certified Level 3 Speech Level Singing Vocal Instructor in the Salt Lake City area with over 8 years of teaching experience.

In 2000 and 2001, Doreene was privileged to attend a fantastic songwriting camp in Nashville, thus allowing her to hone her talents in songwriting. She was able to work one on one with accomplished songwriters and she credits this in helping her find the confidence and learn the skills needed to put together her debut CD.

Doreene's students have had a variety of opportunities to grow their talents, such as performing in musicals and plays in both high school and community theater productions. She has coached students and prepared them to work in recording sessions as well. Her students have been able to attend the Seth Riggs Vocal Workshop in Los Angeles. In addition, her students have had the opportunity to work with other fantastic SLS vocal instructors from Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Salt Lake.

Doreene enjoys working with students that are eager to improve their voices and develop the confidence in using their instrument - no matter the level of their experience.
